SYNOPSIS

The 1949 comedy that introduced Jacques Tati to the world, JOUR DE FÊTE still remains one of the highest grossing films in French cinema history. A wistful and cosy gem, the film centres on François, a bumbling small town postman who is the subject of constant ridicule by the townsfolk. After viewing a film depicting the efficiency of the American postal system, the hapless François becomes determined to emulate his contemporaries in the United States. Shot on location in Sainte-Sévère-sur-Indre, the quaint village where Tati found refuge during World War II, the film offers an affectionate view of life in rural France.
