SYNOPSIS

A cinematic meditation on memory and loss, THREE MINUTES: A LENGTHENING is a riveting and haunting essay film narrated by Academy Award nominee Helena Bonham Carter. In 2009, author Glenn Kurtz stumbled upon a crumbling 16mm colour home movie in his parents’ wardrobe. Shot by his grandfather in 1938, the amateur footage contained three minutes of what turned out to be the only known images of the Jewish town of Nasielsk, Poland just before the Nazi occupation destroyed the community. Bianca Stigter’s resulting documentary unravel the stories hidden in the celluloid and transforms Kurtz’s grandfather’s footage into a deeply moving testament to all victims of the Holocaust.
